"My name is Lucky Montaung. I am 25 years old, and I am grateful to have completed my recovery programme at Sand River Recovery Centre after struggling with substance abuse. There were many reasons why I needed to make a change, but the most important one was simple: I wanted to stop breaking the hearts of the people I loved. When I started using substances, I hurt the people who cared about me most, especially my mother and my family. At the time, I may not have fully understood the impact my choices were having on them, but through my journey of recovery, I came to realise that my addiction had affected far more than just my own life."

"In 2019, I fell in with the wrong crowd and was introduced to drugs. From that point on, my life was never the same. I went in and out of rehabilitation centres, but each time I returned home, I would relapse within a month. I felt like I was caught in a cycle that I couldn't break. Then my sister took me to Sand River Recovery Centre, and that decision changed my life forever. I believe what made this experience different was that Sand River is a Christian-based recovery centre. The programme spoke not only to my addiction, but also to my faith and the values I believed in. Today, my life has changed. I am working on myself every day and learning to take things one day at a time. It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but I am more focused, determined and hopeful about my future. I'm no longer looking back at the person I used to be. I'm focused on becoming the person I want to be."
